Creeping slowly, jumping, dashing, relaxing and yawning... That's the image I had in mind for a cat cafe.

This is a jazzy and pop guitar album performed by the guitar duo "Karinto," consisting of Mucho and Iwachan, who color various landscapes and worldviews with their catchy melodies and surprising arrangements.

The promotional video was shot at CAT LIVING, a cat shelter cafe salon near Toritsudaigaku Station.

This time we spoke with Kana Furuya, the owner of the cafe.

What is a cat shelter cafe?

Although it is primarily a cafe where you can interact with cats, it is also a relay point that protects cats that cannot survive without human support and keeps them alive.

Policies vary from owner to owner, but some, like us, are run by voluntary rescuers, while others work in partnership with other rescue organizations to operate as a place to adopt rescued cats.

This is the exact opposite of pet shops that buy and sell living creatures.
"People are intruding into the cats' living room." This is a soothing place that respects the cats' perspective.

The reason for opening the group was that "there are limits to what an individual can do unless we expand our activities further."

One day, a family of cats was found abandoned in a park in Setagaya, and the next day a typhoon was approaching!

I couldn't wait any longer and ended up rescuing all seven of my family members at once.
Since then, I have been personally involved in conservation activities for over 20 years and have raised over 20 animals, but I felt that there were limits to what I could do as an individual in terms of time and funds, and that I needed to expand my activities further, so I opened this site.

A space where you can simulate living with a cat.

This is a rare cat shelter cafe in that it also serves alcohol.

As the name Cat Living suggests, the interior is designed to resemble a home living room, allowing families considering living with a cat to simulate the experience, and the cafe is filled with the desire to provide a different experience from that of a regular cat cafe.

As part of our conservation activities, we also look for foster parents, but we do so while keeping an eye on the balance of the animals in the cafe.
When it comes to adoption, the focus is inevitably on young cats, and the ratio of boys to girls also needs to be taken into consideration.

●The interior is designed to resemble a living room at home

Currently, animal protection is still left up to the love of individuals. "Legal measures must be put in place as soon as possible."

Animal welfare organizations in Japan have been racking their brains to come up with solutions, as there has not been much understanding of animal welfare in Japan until now.

Recently, communication has become more active on social media, and it feels like horizontal connections are gradually spreading, but there are still not enough shelters (protection facilities) and manpower to actually get the job done.

Not only is culling a national problem, but cruel animal testing is also an issue. Because there are no strict standards like those in the EU, statistics on the number of animals used in experiments in Japan per year are not kept, and even when errors are pointed out from an expert perspective, they are not investigated, and the animals used in experiments suffer and are discarded.

Problems with the breeding and rearing methods used by pet dealers are a problem for the country we live in. I strongly urge the government to act quickly to improve laws and provide support, rather than relying on the goodwill of those involved in animal protection activities. If you are considering getting a pet, I would also encourage you to visit a public health center.

I hope we can carry out activities that transcend various boundaries by drawing on the help of people from all fields.

I also draw pictures, so I have a lot of respect for artists.

I believe that art opens hearts and minds, and I would like to enlist the help of people from all walks of life, not just the arts, to carry out activities that transcend various boundaries. I would be delighted if people could learn about rescue cat cafes through this cat cafe project.
