Omasa, a female spy, once worked as a decoy for Foxfire Yugoro. News comes in of a break-in believed to have been the work of Foxfire Yugoro. The previous owner had died four years earlier; could it have been the work of the second Foxfire Yugoro? A sign left at the gruesome scene depicts a foxfire floating in the darkness. "No, this isn't the work of the second owner. Matataro is not that kind of person." Omasa's fighting spirit burns against the villains who have sullied the name of her predecessor. And there is also the passionate feelings of a woman for the man with whom she once shared a love affair. The previous owner had two sons: Matataro, the older brother, and Bunkichi. It seems Bunkichi is the culprit. Omasa runs around desperately for Matataro. Hikoju and Kumehachi care deeply for Omasa. And what judgment does Heizo, seeing through it all, hand down?
