Mental Fatigue ~ Music for Recovery
■ Background of the project According to a patient survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the total number of patients with mental illnesses has been on the rise over the past 15 years, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD )'s "International Mental Health Survey 2021 " reported that the proportion of Japanese people with depressive symptoms increased 2.2 times between 2013 and 2020. When health problems such as depression arise, in the worst cases, they can be life-threatening.
Taking measures to improve mental health is an important issue for us to live healthy lives both physically and mentally in the future.
■ Therapy music supervised by a clinical psychologist
This time, we have produced support music for recovering from mental fatigue under the supervision of Yuko Momotani, a certified psychologist / clinical psychologist at the Yokohama Rosai Hospital Workers' Mental Health Center.
The music was created by Makiko Hirohashi, who has a long track record in the healing music scene.
This album contains natural sounds with 1/f fluctuations, such as birdsong and leaves rustling in the wind, as well as music with a slow tempo and a nostalgic sound.
Supervisor: Yuko Momotani, who works at the Yokohama Rosai Hospital Workers' Mental Health Center. She is a licensed psychologist, clinical psychologist, pharmacist, and doctor of counseling science.
He also serves as a faculty counselor at Kanagawa University.

■ The booklet (16 pages) that comes with the CD contains commentary . The booklet includes information on the concepts behind the songs, information about mental fatigue, seven habits for recovery, and verification results for the songs.

■ Verification of "Music for Mental Fatigue Recovery"
A music listening experiment with 11 participants ( 6 men, 5 women, ages 30 to 50 ) showed the potential for relaxation and recovery from mental fatigue.
<Changes in mood after listening to music>
Subjects were asked to complete a two-dimensional mood scale ( TDMS-ST ) to assess their mood before and after listening to music. Graph ( 1 ) shows the average scores of the 11 subjects. After listening to music, there was a tendency for mental stability and comfort to increase compared to before listening.

<Changes in fatigue levels after listening to music>
Before and after listening to music, participants were asked to use visual analog scale ( VAS ) software to rate their perceived levels of physical and mental fatigue. Graph ( 2 ) shows the average of the 11 monitors. Comparing fatigue levels before and after listening to music, mental fatigue was significantly lower after listening ( p < 0.05 ). Although physical fatigue after listening was not significant, it was still lower than before listening. Therefore, it is thought that listening to the music on this album reduced mental fatigue.
